If you have ever dreamed of vacationing on a Guest Ranch (aka Dude Ranch), and you dream of wide open spaces among the cows and horses then this role playing game cannot even come close to offering you a view into that world with its over-simplified gaming platform, and barely mediocre graphics.

The games is very simple to play. You are given a small parcel of land with little circular plots dotting the landscape. You place a baby animal or egg, that you have either purchased or recieved as a gift, on the circle, you feed it, you give it vitamins, and you wait for it to "mature". You then collect whatever product that the animal produces, sell those items, and then you start all over again. There are a few caveats as players have to battle skunks, grime, fleas, and thieving neighbors. None of these tasks are particularly difficult or entertaining.

Some drawbacks with Animal Ranch are found in how arduously a player progresses through the levels, and how slowly they earn the coins necessary to buy items for their ranch. Credits can be purchased, to assist in the game, but unlike other role playing games on Facebook, there is no other way to earn those credits.

Another drawback, with the game, is the fact that it encourages Spamming with prompts offered after almost every task that a player performs -- none of which can be considered to be of much consequence. These prompts, and the giving of gifts, are the game's main social contact. There are no human avatars, and you cannot see the other players when they visit your ranch to pilfer goods from your stock. .

Animal Ranch is simple enough for the smallest child, and although the name sounds fairly benign in comparison to titles like Mafia Wars, and Mobsters, the fact that players are encouraged to steal goods from neighboring farms sends a somewhat negative message. The only real fun involved in this game is the fact that you get to throw dirt and fleas, on your neighbor's baby animals, after you have finished pillaging their mature animals for products.

The reality is that it will be hard to find anyone willing to stick with this game, and keep their ranches stocked with items to boost.

Players that are intent on trying out Animal Ranch will find very little support online, and will probably end up turning to the one and only fan club through Facebook which has its own user forum. Searching Youtube, or your favorite search engine, will yield very little in the way of strategy guides or hints. In 1963, The French Chef, Julia Child entered our living rooms in black and white, and taught us how to cook haute cuisine. In the 70s, Graham Kerr galloped into our lives, and showed us that anyone could be a gourmet. The 80s came along, and The Frugal Gourmet, Jeff Smith, entered our homes through PBS, and imparted his knowledge of all things culinary, to his viewers, while demonstrating that fine dining didn't necessarily have to mean spending a ton of money. 1993 rolled around, and cable introduced us to the Food Network with its menu of cooking shows for practically every taste. Japan's Iron Chef came to the cable network and established a hardcore foodie audience, as well as several Americanized knockoffs. Now, Tyler Florence, Giada De Laurentiis, Paula Deen, Ina Garten and Guy Fieri have become household names thanks to their shows on Food Network.

In recent years, Gordon Ramsay crossed the pond with his BBC show Kitchen Nightmares which FOX gladly revamped with a little Hollywood glitz.. His show, Hell's Kitchen, allows budding chefs to compete for the chance to run their own 5 star kitchen. Shows like Take Home Chef and Top Chef have managed to jump to entertainment and educationally oriented cable networks, and have racked up loyal if not rabid followings. All in all, cooking shows are no longer relegated to PBS, and local television audiences, and it is no coincidence that Zynga has found a way to play on the world's love of cooking, and eating out.

In September, Cafe World joined the ever-growing catalog of social games on Facebook. Since its launch it has become one of the fastest growing and popular massively multi-player online games(MMO) available. Cafe World is yet another browser based application (BBA), and allows players to role play the part of a restaurateur and chef. Once the applicaton is launched, players are walked through the basic functions of the game, and then left to their own devices to run their little cyber cafe.

As the owner of your cafe you get to cook items from the cookbook, decorate your restaurant, and move up in the online culinary world. The game offers several options for menu items that allow the player to plan ahead days in advance. Items range from the quick and cheap hamburger to a home-style pot roast that takes two days to cook.

As players accrue the necessary funds, and reach the appointed levels, they can expand their cafe, and add stoves and counter space in order to increase their clientelle and buzz. The selection of decorator items is extensive, and with a bit of imagination players can fully create their own little online haven. A player can start off basic, and as their budgets allows, they can add different, and more expensive, furnishings, flooring, wall treatments, decorator items, and architectural elements.

The game is simple to play, is perfectly child friendly, and can even be used as an educational tool. Cafe owners are encouraged to add neighbors that will enhance the ability to make money and progress through the levels. The game does not include a chat applet, and there is no actual communication while inside the game application. This means that the social aspect of the game is limited to gift giving, wall posts, and visits to neighboring cafes. Daily visits can help boost experience, or cafe points, and cash flow in the game. A gaming ID is not a bad idea if you do not have enough family or friends that are already playing this addictive game. Joining the game's fan club will give you access to other enthusiasts that are looking to grow their own Cafe World neighborhoods.

As with most of Zynga's games, players that would like a little assistance, in playing their online game, will have no problem in finding an assortment of strategy guides, user forums, hint pages, and videos to guide them through the ins and outs of cyber cafe ownership. The game is free, but those that wish to can purchase cafe bucks that wil enable to expand their cafe, and buy more items at a quicker pace. Truly competitive players may also be interested in purchasing one of the several strategy guides that have surfaced on Cafe World specific websites.

The game can be a little glitchy and slow to load, but usually hitting the refresh button or completely reloading the application will fix the problem. The game does not offer any surprises, and plays much like Zynga's Farmville, but for those who have always imagined owning their own supper club it offers afun online playground, and is actually kind of entertaining to run as a background application for a quick escape from the every day world. So strap on those aprons, dust off your wire whisk, and fire up your browsers for a quick foray into the culinary arena... Cafe World is worth visiting.

On the 30th of June in 1997 the United Kingdom was introduced to the boy with the lightening bolt scar on his forehead. J K Rowling's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone hit the bookshelves with a limited run through Bloomsbury Publishing. Within a year Scholastic Publishing adopted the boy, and helped turn him into a pop culture phenomena. The title was changed, but the story remained the same, and by 1999 Warner Brothers had purchased the right to immortalize everyone's favorite boy wizard on film. The first installment of the Harry Potter series hit movie theater screens on November 14th 2001, and it was an instant sensation.

Six books have since followed Harry through the trials and tribulations of his life at home, and at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry, and his friends, Ron and Hermione, have stolen the hearts of readers young and old. The books have been translated into 67 languages worldwide, and they continue to leap off the shelves, so it only stands to reason that the gaming community would find a way to capitalize on this fascination with a world unlike our own.

School of Wizardy, is a massively multi-player online game (MMO) available through Facebook, and it is pretty much a direct knock-off of the Harry Potter series. When the application is first launched players are prompted to select one of three characters to represent their gaming persona. Each character has different attributes, and players much choose which attribute, such as attack strength or defense, that they want the most. The three icons, representing the choices, might as well have signs around their neck that read "Harry," "Ron," and "Hermione" as there is no mistaking who they were modeled after.

The game plays like any other browser based application (BBA) or role playing game (RPG), and players must monitor their energy, stamina, health, and experience to progress through the levels. There are no real surprises with School of Wizardy as the game's developers literally utilize aspects of Rowling's magical world. Players must purchase a wand, robes, sorting hat , and other items to complete lessons, to make money and gain experience. If you have read the books, or watched the films, then the game will have a very familiar feel to it.

As Mark Twain once noted, "familiarity breeds contempt..." and the game might be amusing to some, but after awhile it just seems like a weak homage to the movies. Play is slow and tedious, and the items are too expensive to attain, in the beginning of the game, so players are forced to squander energy points redoing lessons to gain the coins necessary to move forward.

As with all social games, players are encouraged to add neighbors, or in the case of School of Wizardy order members, who can support them through gift giving, and attack strength. The game is simple to play, and is child friendly. There is no internal chat applet included in the game's construction so contact,with other players, is limited to the act of giving and receiving gifts, and to wall posts. A gaming ID might be a good idea if you want to seriously attack School of Wizardry, or any other social game, on Facebook. The larger your gaming community is... the stronger your player becomes.

Players that are seeking advice, on their gaming, will most likely hit a wall when looking on their favorite search engine, or on Youtube. Extensive searches are more likely to yield links to other virtual wizarding sites, or to Harry Potter fan sites. The game's mild popularity has spawned a user group on Facebook with less than a 1000 members to date. The group's page is probably the best bet when seeking support or answers to specific questions regarding School of Wizardry.

If you are not looking for too much out of a game, and do not want to put too much effort into playing-- then School of Wizardry might be what you are looking for. As for most of us, we will have to plug in our DVDs of the latest film installment, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and reread the novels until November of 2010 when the first part of the final novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, is due for release.

Arrange your tables in this manner; where everyone is seated close to the cooks so the waiters do not have to waste time walking

Due to my preference of the seating arrangement above, I would add two or three tables for each cook I have.
At the moment, I have 4 cooks, 2 waiters and 10 tables.
You will have to make your own judgment by adjusting the number of tables, seating arrangement but as a rough* guide:
With 1 cook, 1 waiter = 3 tables
With 2 cooks, 1 waiter = 6 tables
With 3 cooks, 1 waiter = 8 -9 tables
With 4 cooks, 2 waiters = 10 -12 tables
*PLEASE understand that this is ONLY a rough guide. Experiment with numbers and see what your staff can handle as it differs with the way you arranged your tables and where your cooks are!

Go to the trading forum and try trading for ingredients and items that you want!

If possible, try to find someone who wishes to level up dishes completely different from yours (of which require different ingredients to yours) so you can trade and help each other to advance!

You can shake trees (found outside restaurants) for money by clicking on them. So go around to your friends' place and shake their trees too. [Inside the restaurant]

Earn extra cash by clearing up other people's trash. To clear trash, click on it with your mouse. [Inside the restaurant]

Feed your workers so they have max health then 'save and quit' before you go to sleep or head out for >5 hours. When you load the game again, you should get an earning of 2000 coins.
